Is Google Forms really anonymous, and what should I use when people need to be sure?

Google Forms can be set to collect no names or email addresses, but the person answering cannot see those settings, so many assume they can be identified and answer politely. Clearvoyance is an alternative for honest feedback: each answer is stored with no link to the person who gave it, there is no column that could hold one, and results unlock only once at least five people have replied. Flat price per campaign from $4.99.

Why people do not trust an anonymous Google Form

A Google Form can be anonymous. The form owner decides whether to collect email addresses, whether people must sign in to an organisation account, and who can open the spreadsheet the answers land in. The trouble is that the person answering sees none of that. They see a form with your name on it, perhaps a note at the top saying it is anonymous, and a Submit button.

So they ask themselves the questions you cannot answer for them. Is my email being collected even though there is no field for it? Does the timestamp beside my answer give me away, because I am the only one who fills things in at 7am? Only four of us report to this manager, so who else could have said that? Each doubt shaves a little honesty off the answer, and you end up with the polite version.

None of this is a flaw in Google Forms. It is a general form builder, and anonymity in a general form builder is a setting. A setting is something the respondent has to take on trust.

What anonymous by construction means

  • Each answer is stored with no link to the person who gave it. There is no column in the data that could hold one, so there is nothing to switch off and nothing to leak.
  • You never see an email address beside any activity. Not who opened the link, not who answered, not when.
  • People can answer out loud. Recordings are transcribed and discarded, never stored, so a voice cannot be recognised later.
  • Results stay locked until enough people have answered: five on an open link, or the share of an email list you chose on a targeted campaign, never below half. Until then you see only a count.
  • On an open link, one answer per device is enforced by a hashed IP and device fingerprint, and nothing from that check is stored in a way that links to an answer.

How to replace a feedback form with a Clearvoyance link

  • Write up to 10 open questions. Three is usually enough for a form people answer on a phone.
  • Start an open-link campaign and choose a cap of 10, 50, 100 or 200 answers. Pay once at launch, from $4.99 by card; no subscription.
  • Put the link wherever the form link used to go: the newsletter, the order email, the staff channel, a QR code on the counter, your email signature.
  • People open it with no account and no app, answer each question by voice or in text, read the transcript, edit it if they like, and submit. A submitted answer is locked.
  • Once five people have answered you get every transcript at once, an AI report with the themes, sentiment, representative quotes and an executive summary, and a CSV export.
  • Optionally show a thank-you after someone answers, such as a code for their next order.

What to say when you share the link

With a form you have to assert anonymity. With Clearvoyance you can describe it, which is more convincing: "Two minutes, by voice or text. There is nowhere to enter your name, nothing shows me who answered, and I only see results once five people have replied." People can check the first part themselves the moment they open the link.

If you want to see exactly what they will see, run the free self-test first. You are both the creator and the respondent, you pay nothing, and you can walk through the answer flow on your own phone before you ask anyone else to.

When Google Forms is the better choice

  • You need to know who answered: event registration, RSVPs, sign-up sheets, bookings.
  • You are running a quiz or a graded assessment.
  • You need many question types, required fields, branching logic or a long form.
  • You need a language other than English. Clearvoyance is English only.
  • You run many forms a month and want them free and unlimited.
  • You want to see each response the moment it arrives.

When not to use Clearvoyance

  • Fewer than five people will answer. Results on an open link do not unlock until five have, and a targeted campaign needs a list of at least 10 addresses.
  • You expect more than 200 answers. That is the largest cap.
  • You need the answers for longer than 30 days without exporting them; answers and reports are deleted 30 days after a campaign closes.

Questions

Is Google Forms anonymous?

It can be. A form owner can choose not to collect email addresses or require sign-in, and then the answers carry no name. The person answering cannot see those settings, though, so they have to take the owner's word for it, and many do not.

How many answers do I need before I see anything?

Five on an open link. Results stay locked until then, so no single answer can be picked out. On a targeted campaign sent to a list of email addresses, results unlock once the share of the list you chose has answered, never below half.

Can I use it for staff feedback?

Yes. Paste 10 to 200 email addresses and each person gets their own invitation from clearvoyance.ai; the list is deleted once the invitations are queued unless you choose to save it. The organisation never sees an email address beside any answer.

What does it cost compared with a free form?

A flat price per campaign, paid once at launch: $4.99 for up to 10 answers, $17.99 for 50, $29.99 for 100 and $49.99 for 200. Targeted campaigns to a list run from $4.99 for 10 people to $49.99 for 200. No subscription and no per-answer fee.

How long are answers kept?

Answers and the AI report are deleted 30 days after the campaign closes, so export the transcripts as CSV before then. Recordings are transcribed and discarded, never stored.
